Cooper's Story by Melissa Borgeson

I’ll start by saying that just thinking about Cooper makes me cry a little bit still.  We have had dogs as a part of our family since 1997, a year after we were married when we purchased a purebred Labrador retriever puppy from a local breeder. She became like our child until our human children came along. And then she was just one of the gang, going everywhere with us.   We welcomed Oscar into our home when he showed up at our doorstep in 2002. He was a stray, and we soon found his owners, who were his second owners and more than happy to let us adopt him for a fee. Locutus, our girl, and Oscar, our boy,  became...

Brandy's Story by Rachel Hawkinson

This was my Brandy, a rescue and my undeniable proof that God exists and is always at work for us.   I was on anti-depressants for two months when I got her in 2003. I hated being on meds. HATED it. But I wasn’t handling life well at the time. I wasn’t looking for her at the time, but she found me. There were four families in front of me to adopt her too, but somehow the universe decided her purpose was to save me. I was able to get off my meds shortly after. I had a reason to get out of bed and something to make my heart feel something good. I don’t know what was wrong with me,...

Ollie's Story by Marcy Ellenbogen

I adopted/rescued Ollie at 8 weeks old from Adopt & Shop in Culver City. I wasn't going to get a puppy after Homer went to the Rainbow Bridge. However, as we know they pick us. I stopped in Adopt & Shop, not quite ready to get my next furbaby and certainly not a puppy. Well, the rest is history.  We are a registered therapy dog team and visit different facilities. I have been a registered Pet Partner therapy team for 20+ years. During the pandemic we are doing virtual visits. Ollie also has 2 therapy bunny siblings and 2 kitties. All my furbabies are rescues.

Finnley's Story by Laura Parker

My sweetest boy. I was lucky enough to be the person to rescue our dog, Finnley back in 2010. As many rescuers attest, he did indeed wind up rescuing us by providing us with never ending love and dog hair.   He was found in Stockton,CA at 3 months old and was supposed to be adopted by another family. I was crushed. However that family elected not to adopt him and we got the call on April Fools Day that he was back up for adoption. I though my boyfriend (now husband) was playing a mean trick but turns out it was simply fate joining us together.  We made the drive to get him and I walked up to his cage where...

Lexus' Story by Karen Peters

This is our Lexus who is now at the Rainbow Bridge. One Saturday my husband and me walked into PetSmart and the SPCA had an adoption event going on. We had recently lost our black lab puppy to cancer and when we saw Lexus we had to have her. Lexus fit right into our family and got along well with our yellow Lab. We got to love and spoil Lexus for 13 wonderful years.
